Dedication
This enterprise is dedicated to Archie Cochrane’s critical vision, as elaborated in 1972. Cochrane wrote that because resources for health care would always be limited, they should be used for treatments that have been proven to be effective. His very influential book provided strong advocacy for controlled clinical trials.
1996….Evidence Based Medicine (EBM), a term first published by David Eddy in JAMA in 1990, was further defined by Sackett and colleagues of McMaster University in the BMJ as “…..the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients.”
2001…The notion of Evidence Informed Medicine (EIM) sprung from Sackett’s revised “Evidence-based medicine is the integration of best research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values.”
2008…Sloane and colleagues introduced Skepticemia….”EBM encourages a healthy skepticism of every practice in medicine and promotes a culture of inquiry.”
